How to Set Up WP Mail SMTP for Your WPForms Emails

Step 0 of 5 completed
1
Open the WP Mail SMTP settings
  1. In the WordPress menu on the left, go to WP Mail SMTP → Settings.
  2. Stay on the General tab.
2
Set the From Email and From Name
  1. In From Email, enter the email address your website should send from. Use an address on your own domain (for example your school’s main enquiries address).
  2. Tick Force From Email so every form and plugin on the site uses this address.
  3. Leave From Name as your site name, or enter a different name.
  4. Tick Set the return-path to match the From Email so bounced emails come back to you.
Pro Tip
With Force From Email switched on, the From Email field inside each WPForms notification is disabled. The sender is set here instead.
3
Choose the mailer and enter the SMTP details
  1. In the Mailer section, select Other SMTP.
  2. Fill in the fields that appear, using the details from your email provider: SMTP Host, Encryption, SMTP Port, Authentication (usually On), SMTP Username (your email address) and SMTP Password (an app password where your provider requires one).

Not sure what to enter? Innermedia provides email hosting for many schools, so email support@innermedia.co.uk and we will give you the right details.

4
Save your settings

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Settings.

5
Send a test email
  1. Go to WP Mail SMTP → Tools and open the Email Test tab.
  2. Enter an email address you can check and send the test.
  3. Check it arrives. If it does not, check the details in step 3, or contact Innermedia support.
Warning
Make sure the SMTP Username matches the From Email address. A mismatch is a common reason for emails being rejected.
