⚠️ Contact your Innermedia support team for this

This is a DNS/hosting-level change, not something to set up yourself. Contact your Innermedia support team with both domains (the one going offline and the one it should redirect to) and we'll handle it end to end.

When you'd need this

This applies when a whole website is being retired — for example after a merger, rebrand, or consolidation — and you want the old domain to send visitors straight to a different, live website rather than showing an error once the old site is switched off.

This is different from a normal page redirect inside WordPress (see How to set up URL redirects in WordPress): here the entire domain needs to point elsewhere at DNS level, before the old hosting is removed.

What we'll do

  1. Confirm the destination domain the old domain should redirect to.
  2. Update the old domain’s DNS records so it points at the destination site (or set up a domain-level forward at the registrar, depending on the destination platform).
  3. Test the redirect from a few entry points (root domain, www, and any commonly-linked pages) before the original site is taken offline.
  4. Once the redirect is confirmed working, the original website and hosting can be safely decommissioned.
⚠️ Don't switch off the old site first

The redirect needs to be set up and tested before the old hosting is removed. If hosting is removed first, visitors and any inbound links will hit a dead domain in the meantime.
