Fixing Blurry or Stretched Images
Why Images Look Blurry
Blurry images are caused by uploading an image too small for the space it fills. WordPress stretches it to fit β and it looks fuzzy.
π The Rule
Always upload images at least as large as the space they fill. Banners: 1920px. Content: 1200px. Thumbnails: 600px.
Why Images Look Stretched
Stretched images happen when the aspect ratio doesn’t match the container. Crop to match the expected ratio before uploading.
How to Fix It
Solutions by cause:
- Too small β Replace with a higher resolution version
- Wrong ratio β Crop before uploading using Canva or Squoosh
- Over-compressed β Re-export at 80% quality
- Wrong format β Use PNG for screenshots and graphics with text
Checking Image Dimensions
In the Media Library, click any image to see its dimensions. Compare to the recommended sizes in our ‘Optimising Images’ guide.
