MFA Troubleshooting
Authenticator app codes are time-based, so open the app and check it’s actively generating a fresh code every 30 seconds rather than showing a stuck one. See our guide on Enabling Two-Factor Authentication if you haven’t set one up yet — we recommend an authenticator app over SMS codes.
Use one of your saved recovery codes to log in instead of the 2FA prompt. If you don’t have your recovery codes to hand, see our guide on Removing 2FA When a Member Is Locked Out.
Install the new app, then go to Wordfence → Login Security in wp-admin and set up 2FA again to generate a fresh QR code — scanning this with your new app replaces the old connection.
Because 2FA ties to one authenticator app on one device, accounts shared between several people tend to cause repeated lockouts. Where possible, give each person their own login rather than sharing a single 2FA-protected account — contact support if you’d like help setting up additional individual accounts.
Contact support with what you’re seeing — we can manually verify your identity and reset 2FA on your account if needed.
