Clearing Your Browser Cache

Step 0 of 6 completed
1
Understand What Browser Cache Is

Your browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox) automatically saves copies of websites you visit — including images, stylesheets, and scripts. This is called caching, and it helps pages load faster on repeat visits.

However, when your website is updated (new content, design changes, or bug fixes), your browser may still show the old cached version instead of the latest one. Clearing the cache forces your browser to download fresh copies of everything.

Pro Tip
Quick fix first: Before clearing your entire cache, try a hard refresh — this forces just the current page to reload without cache. On Windows press Ctrl + Shift + R, on Mac press Cmd + Shift + R.
2
Clear Cache in Google Chrome

Chrome is the most commonly used browser. Here’s how to clear its cache:

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner of Chrome
  2. Go to SettingsPrivacy and security
  3. Click Delete browsing data
  4. Set the Time range to All time
  5. Make sure Cached images and files is ticked (you can untick Browsing history and Cookies if you only want to clear the cache)
  6. Click Delete data

Once cleared, navigate back to your website and it will load the latest version.

Pro Tip
Keyboard shortcut: Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + Delete (Mac) to jump straight to the clear data screen.
3
Clear Cache in Safari (Mac)

Safari handles cache clearing slightly differently:

  1. Open Safari and click Safari in the top menu bar
  2. Select Settings (or Preferences on older versions)
  3. Go to the Advanced tab
  4. Tick Show features for web developers (this enables the Develop menu)
  5. Close Settings, then click Develop in the menu bar
  6. Select Empty Caches

You only need to enable the Develop menu once — it stays visible for future use.

Pro Tip
Once the Develop menu is enabled, use the shortcut Cmd + Option + E to empty caches instantly.
4
Clear Cache in Microsoft Edge

Edge uses the same engine as Chrome, so the process is very similar:

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top-right corner
  2. Go to SettingsPrivacy, search, and services
  3. Under Delete browsing data, click Choose what to clear
  4. Set the Time range to All time
  5. Tick Cached images and files
  6. Click Clear now
Pro Tip
Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + Delete takes you straight to the clear data screen.
5
Clear Cache on Mobile Devices

If you’re checking your website on a phone or tablet:

iPhone / iPad (Safari):

  1. Open the Settings app on your device
  2. Scroll down and tap Apps, then Safari
  3. Tap Clear History and Website Data
  4. Confirm by tapping Clear History

Android (Chrome):

  1. Open Chrome and tap the three-dot menu (⋮)
  2. Tap SettingsPrivacy and security
  3. Tap Delete browsing data
  4. Set time range to All time, tick Cached images and files
  5. Tap Delete data
Pro Tip
Clearing Safari data on iPhone will also remove your browsing history. If you only want to clear cached data, use the Website Data option under Safari settings instead.

Still Not Seeing Changes?

If you’ve cleared your browser cache and your website still shows old content, there may be a server-side cache that also needs clearing. This is a separate cache managed by your hosting provider and can be cleared from your WordPress dashboard.

See our article on Clearing Your Website Cache for instructions on how to do this.

If the issue persists after clearing both caches, please contact InnerMedia support — there may be a CDN or additional caching layer involved.
