Clearing Your Browser Cache
Your browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox) automatically saves copies of websites you visit — including images, stylesheets, and scripts. This is called caching, and it helps pages load faster on repeat visits.
However, when your website is updated (new content, design changes, or bug fixes), your browser may still show the old cached version instead of the latest one. Clearing the cache forces your browser to download fresh copies of everything.
Ctrl + Shift + R, on Mac press Cmd + Shift + R. Chrome is the most commonly used browser. Here’s how to clear its cache:
- Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner of Chrome
- Go to Settings → Privacy and security
- Click Delete browsing data
- Set the Time range to All time
- Make sure Cached images and files is ticked (you can untick Browsing history and Cookies if you only want to clear the cache)
- Click Delete data
Once cleared, navigate back to your website and it will load the latest version.
Ctrl + Shift + Delete (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + Delete (Mac) to jump straight to the clear data screen. Safari handles cache clearing slightly differently:
- Open Safari and click Safari in the top menu bar
- Select Settings (or Preferences on older versions)
- Go to the Advanced tab
- Tick Show features for web developers (this enables the Develop menu)
- Close Settings, then click Develop in the menu bar
- Select Empty Caches
You only need to enable the Develop menu once — it stays visible for future use.
Cmd + Option + E to empty caches instantly. Edge uses the same engine as Chrome, so the process is very similar:
- Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top-right corner
- Go to Settings → Privacy, search, and services
- Under Delete browsing data, click Choose what to clear
- Set the Time range to All time
- Tick Cached images and files
- Click Clear now
Ctrl + Shift + Delete takes you straight to the clear data screen. If you’re checking your website on a phone or tablet:
iPhone / iPad (Safari):
- Open the Settings app on your device
- Scroll down and tap Apps, then Safari
- Tap Clear History and Website Data
- Confirm by tapping Clear History
Android (Chrome):
- Open Chrome and tap the three-dot menu (⋮)
- Tap Settings → Privacy and security
- Tap Delete browsing data
- Set time range to All time, tick Cached images and files
- Tap Delete data
If you’ve cleared your browser cache and your website still shows old content, there may be a server-side cache that also needs clearing. This is a separate cache managed by your hosting provider and can be cleared from your WordPress dashboard.
See our article on Clearing Your Website Cache for instructions on how to do this.
If the issue persists after clearing both caches, please contact InnerMedia support — there may be a CDN or additional caching layer involved.
